Otis and God
I heard a story about a church revival in a small town in Kentucky, where an evangelist preached for six nights. In this town, there was a man named Otis who was a drunkard, and he came to this revival to hear this Evangelist that everyone was talking about.
Each night the preacher would deliver a powerful message about salvation and then the invitation was given each night for those that were lost and needed Jesus.
Each night when the preacher would say with every head bowed, and every eye closed is there anyone here that is lost and needs Jesus to do a miracle in their life?
The man named Otis each night would raise his hand, tear streaming down his face that he needed Jesus.
When the preacher would ask for those who raised their hands to come to the altar and pray for forgiveness, Otis would just sat there and wouldn’t budge.
This happened all six nights of the services of that revival. On Saturday night when the revival was over, the church pastor ask everyone to come and shake the hand of the preacher before he leaves.
Otis was the last one to get up and come down to shake the hand of the evangelist, but as he walked down the aisle towards the preacher, he stopped short of the preacher with his face kind of smug Otis pointed his finger at the preacher and said, “you almost got me, you almost got me preacher”.
A week went by and the preacher received a call that Otis had died of heart attack.
We certainly don’t know the heart of Otis because that’s between him and God but it’s very possible that Otis died a sinful man.
Don’t resist the Holy Spirit tugging at your heart. Don’t be like Otis.
You are never too sinful. You’re never too lost that you can’t be saved.
You never know, it could be your last opportunity to be forgiven.
